Cake smash photography

The Cake

It's all about the cake for this type of shoot. The cake can really make all the difference to a great photo!

Things to consider when making the cake:

  • A cake with buttercream will produce more mess – the messier the better!
  • Try to follow with the colour scheme of the decorations:

Boys cake smash:

Shades of blue and white.

Girls cake smash:

Pinks, purples and white.

Rainbow cake smash:

Any 3 colours you would like! (see below for an example)

What should my child wear?

Before the cake is added to the setup, I like to settle your child into the studio with some simple shots of them.

For this part of the shoot, I would recommend smart, comfortable clothes with some colour.

For the cake smash itself, you could consider just a nappy with some briefs over the top (don’t worry it will be warm for your child) or you could find a personalised vest online for a reasonable price.

After the cake smash, a flannel, warm water, towel and changing mat will be provided for you to be able to clean your child.

If your child has a favourite toy, please bring it with you on the day.

I look forward to capturing your child's first birthday!
